Clear Executive
Executive leadership; senior management; leadership development; senior executive; management; leadership – Confused? Understandably!! With all these buzz words floating around and many questions to be answered: Who are the leaders? Who is the real leader? What does leadership mean to you? What do leaders do? Are leaders born or made? How do you become a leader? What are the attributes of a leader? How do I become the best leader I can be? The questions are endless.
What are the deeper issues underlying this confusion and ambiguity or more specifically what are we here to achieve? Consider the scenario in which someone comes up with a good idea, for instance a new acquisition for the company. From this point something has to be done with this idea. First the innovator has to convince someone that it is a good idea. Then the idea finds its way into the business objectives or overarching corporate strategy. What does the innovator want in return for his good idea? Money? A legacy? Fulfilment? Satisfaction? Fame? Status?
A few more people agree that it is a good idea and that forms a group of people that are required to do something with the good idea. We can call this group of people an executive group. This executive group must sell this good idea to others so they will ‘buy’ it. The executive may not be able to do that on their own, they will recruit people to assist them. How does the executive ensure that the end result matches the original idea and they meet their objective? This is where it gets complicated with psychological process, as actions are easier in the imagination than they are in reality. The breakthrough exists in becoming an effective leader!
